Speak Up – Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy Speak Up is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people in our care. We expect all staff, volunteers, and partners to share this commitment.
- Follow all relevant government guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Appoint a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with responsibility for child protection and ensure all staff know how to report concerns.
- Ensure all staff and facilitators complete regular safeguarding and child protection training.
- Follow safer recruitment practices, including references and enhanced DBS checks for all staff.
- Provide a safe environment in all workshops and classes, with at least one responsible adult present at all times.
- Take concerns seriously: any safeguarding issue raised will be recorded, acted upon, and referred to the appropriate authority when necessary.
- Maintain a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, or abuse of any kind.
- Ensure staff understand whistleblowing procedures if they have concerns about colleagues’ behaviour.
- Apply safeguarding measures equally in in-person and online sessions.
- Review this policy annually to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice.
