When I ask kids what they’re most nervous about going back to school, I hear the same things: “What if no one talks to me?” Totally normal, but here’s the drama trick.

We rehearse it, just like actors rehearse their lines. Children could practice what they might say on the first day.

It might feel silly at first. But saying those words out loud builds confidence. ✨

No Filler Words! 🎭

This drama game is a fun way to help children build confidence, think on their feet and speak with more clarity.

How to play:
Give your child a random object and ask them to sell it to you, without using filler words like “um”, “err” or “like”.

The moment they use one, shout SWAP! and it’s your turn to sell. 😆

Then try it again with different objects and see who can keep going without a filler word!

Filler words are a habit, not a personality. This game helps children become more aware of how they speak, pause with confidence and own their words.

We love bringing our drama workshops to the children making sure they’re having fun while building transferable skills they can take into everyday life.

For us, drama isn’t just about giving children a script and asking them to learn lines. We want them to use their imagination, share their ideas and become the creators of their own stories! ✨

We partnered with @routescollective to run a two-day programme built on exactly that, planning what you actually want to say, then having the courage to say it in your own voice.

Don’t tone yourself down to be more easily accepted or agreeable. Speak with real passion and conviction instead! Not a watered-down, easier-to-swallow version of yourself.

Try a Tongue Twister! 👅🎭

Tongue twisters are a fun way to improve clear speech, concentration, and confidence.

The trick is to say them slowly at first, then see how fast you can go without getting tangled!

Try this one:
“Red lorry, yellow lorry.”

Challenge the whole family and see who can say it perfectly three times in a row! 😊

Why? It removes the fear of saying the wrong thing.
No real words allowed. Just made up sounds, your face, your body, your tone.

When there are no right or wrong words, every child wins!

Try it at home, on the way to school… a gibberish argument, a gibberish interview, a gibberish secret revealed! Or even a gibberish catch up about the day.

I remember when I was at the Brit School, one of my teachers telling us how important it was to set the energy of the room before students arrived.

What drama taught me about belonging.

When I first started at BRIT School, I didn’t arrive feeling confident or ready. I arrived feeling unsure and out of place.
Drama gave me something I didn’t even realise I needed at the time: space to warm up, to explore, and to be myself without pressure.

That experience shaped why I built Speak Up Drama for the children who don’t rush to the front, who find confidence quietly, and who need time and encouragement to find where they belong.

We kicked off our brand-new Drama & Physical Theatre class with @sportattheheart this week… and WOW! First session started with a bang! 💥🎭

Physical theatre blends movement, storytelling and imagination using the body as well as voice to create characters, emotions and scenes.
It’s playful, expressive and a brilliant way for children to discover new ways of communicating.

This week, we explored how to tell a story through movement first. The group jumped straight in with confidence, teamwork and BIG imagination.
