Part 1 πThe new school year is fast approaching, and itβs so normal to feel nerves!
When I ask kids what theyβre most nervous about going back to school, I hear the same things: βWhat if no one talks to me?β Totally normal, but hereβs the drama trick.
We rehearse it, just like actors rehearse their lines. Children could practice what they might say on the first day.
It might feel silly at first. But saying those words out loud builds confidence. β¨

No Filler Words! π
This drama game is a fun way to help children build confidence, think on their feet and speak with more clarity.
How to play:
Give your child a random object and ask them to sell it to you, without using filler words like βumβ, βerrβ or βlikeβ.
The moment they use one, shout SWAP! and itβs your turn to sell. π
Then try it again with different objects and see who can keep going without a filler word!
Filler words are a habit, not a personality. This game helps children become more aware of how they speak, pause with confidence and own their words.
Give it a go at home!

Public speaking isnβt about sounding perfect. Itβs about sounding like you.
We partnered with @routescollective to run a two-day programme built on exactly that, planning what you actually want to say, then having the courage to say it in your own voice.
Donβt tone yourself down to be more easily accepted or agreeable. Speak with real passion and conviction instead! Not a watered-down, easier-to-swallow version of yourself.
Passion over palatable. Every time.
We really enjoyed leading this, thank you for having us!

I was the voice of EasyJet. Dyslexic. Sight reading use to terrify me. But I had drama teachers who gave me tools. Confidence techniques. Ways to trust myself.

What drama taught me about belonging.
When I first started at BRIT School, I didnβt arrive feeling confident or ready. I arrived feeling unsure and out of place.
Drama gave me something I didnβt even realise I needed at the time: space to warm up, to explore, and to be myself without pressure.
That experience shaped why I built Speak Up Drama for the children who donβt rush to the front, who find confidence quietly, and who need time and encouragement to find where they belong.
If your child takes time to warm up too, youβre in the right place π

One thing I wish I had more of growing up?
Being read to.
Thereβs something so powerful about hearing stories out loud the rhythm, the expression, the connection. It shapes confidence in ways we donβt always realise.

Seeing children, young people and adults all growing through creativity and communication has been such a joy.
Happy Friday βοΈ
Yesterday we had the joy of delivering our bespoke Public Speaking & Pitching Workshop for the Lorraine Estate community, in partnership with Islington Council, helping residents speak up and stand out as they prepare their 90-second pitches for community funding. β¨
As soon as we were asked, we knew we had to bring Freddie in. β¨
With over 30 years of experience leading multi-million-pound enterprise software deals, and decades spent coaching teams in persuasive communication, he knows exactly what it takes to deliver a pitch that lands. β¨
Together, we supported residents to structure their message, speak clearly, manage nerves and present with purpose.
The energy in the room was incredible.
Helping people find their voice at any age is exactly what Speak Up is all about. π

We kicked off our brand-new Drama & Physical Theatre class with @sportattheheart this weekβ¦ and WOW! First session started with a bang! π₯π
Physical theatre blends movement, storytelling and imagination using the body as well as voice to create characters, emotions and scenes.
Itβs playful, expressive and a brilliant way for children to discover new ways of communicating.
This week, we explored how to tell a story through movement first. The group jumped straight in with confidence, teamwork and BIG imagination.
If your child loves to move, explore and create this class is for them!

π« Hereβs a lovely activity that builds confidence and kindness - the Compliment Challenge. π«
Each child gives a genuine compliment to someone else in the group.
It could be , βI liked how you used your voice,β or βYou had a great idea in that scene.β
You can do this at home around the dinner table, or teachers - try it during circle times.
Itβs a simple way to help children see the good in others and themselves. #confidencethroughcreativity
A little reminder for your Tuesday π

At Speak Up Drama Club, every child is the creator of their own story!
Their voice matters π

Scripts in hand, listening, imagining, giving something a goβ¦
This is where confidence starts. π
Drama gives children space to try, express, and discover their voice in their own way.
Small moments like these build brave voices. π

Thereβs something special about moments like this, a teacher guiding children into a world of imagination, expression, and brave choices.
At Speak Up, our teachers donβt just run activities.
They create the space where children learn to express ideas, work as a team, and find their voice through creativity.
These are the skills they carry far beyond the room.
And this is why drama matters. ππ
