Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
Speak Up Drama is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people in our care. We expect all staff, volunteers, and partners to share this commitment.
1. We:
- Follow all relevant government guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Have a named Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) responsible for child protection, and two Deputy DSLs to ensure cover at all times.
- Ensure all staff and facilitators complete regular safeguarding and child protection training, and that our DSLs complete additional DSL-specific training.
- Require enhanced DBS checks for all staff, with reference checks carried out as part of our recruitment process.
- Provide a safe environment in all workshops and classes, with at least one responsible adult present at all times.
- Take concerns seriously: any safeguarding issue raised is recorded, acted upon, and referred to the appropriate authority when necessary.
- Maintain a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, or abuse of any kind.
- Have a clear route for staff to raise concerns about a colleague’s behaviour.
- Apply safeguarding measures equally in in-person and online sessions.
- Review this policy annually to ensure it stays in line with legislation and best practice.
